The only component that needs a "real" back up solution is the XP Pro workstation in the "server" role which will run the Patterson Eagle Soft software that contains all of the HIPAA protected patient data, x-ray images, etc. I plan on backing up the workstations to the NAS with Acronis Echo Workstation or something similar for quick bare metal recovery in the event a machine fails or melts down. however, they don't offer incremental restores and the interface seems more focused on publishing and sharing your files than on speedy backups and recovery.Ĥ X Dell XP workstations (clinician role) They can't back up to a mapped network drive (SoS Online backup, Carbonite, Mozy) or they don't keep multiple copies of your incremental changes (HP Upline).ĭoes anyone have any recommendations? HP Upline comes the closest to what I need, offering encrypted backups to both a local drive share as well as their online servers. I've demoed many of the online/offline backup solutions and they all seem to be lacking in different areas. Does anyone have a recommendation on backup software that will fit the bill? Ideally I would go with a single backup solution that would allow for backups to the NAS as well as offsite backup over the internet.

So, after all that preamble here's the question. I plan on buying her a Ready NAS which will be used to back up the dental software application data and also store Acronis images of all the machines in the event a machine needs to be restored from scratch. I'm trying to determine the most painless way to produce backups of this data and still have it be HIPAA compliant (from what I understand this means the backups have to be encrypted, logged, and you have to have a written backup/recovery plan). According to Patterson the only way to guarantee a successfull backup of the application data is for their application to be stopped first (no open files).

The "server" consists of a Windows XP Pro workstation that runs the Eagle Soft dental software application. I'm setting up computers for my wife's dental office which will be going live in a few weeks. Hi guys, longtime lurker and 1st time poster here.
